The results of the working trip of the Turkmenistan government delegation to Iran have been discussed at the session of the Turkmenistan Cabinet of Ministers, reported the Turkmenistan government on Monday.
Bilateral cooperation in field of fuel and energy and the steps taken to upgrade the industrial infrastructure of the oil and gas industry have been discussed during the visit.
At the session Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Berdymohammadov said that one of the key aspects of the energy strategy implemented by Turkmenistan is development of mutually beneficial international partnership. President emphasized the necessity of further measures aimed at building the export potential of the field, increasing the volume of production and refining hydrocarbon resources.
The gas deliveries from Turkmenistan to Iran started in the mid-1990s after launching of the Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas pipeline. The Dolvetabad-Serakhs-Khangeron pipeline has been also put into operation recently, which is in great demand, because of growth of Turkmenistan gas deliveries to Iran.
It was earlier reported that Iran and Turkmenistan have been negotiating increase in the Turkmen gas deliveries to Iran. Several big fields have been discovered in Balkan region of Turkmenistan – Korpeje, Keymir, Southern Kamyshlyja, Akpatlavuk, Shatut, Nebitlije and Altyguyi, which serve as the raw material base for Iran.
According to Iran, annual volume of mutual trade between the two neighboring countries is about $5 billion and in the coming years it could double.
