On June 20, 2014 during his working visit to Osh Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev has requested administration of Russian Gasprom company to solve the gas crisis on the south of the country, reported Tengrinews.kz.
For two months Uzbekistan did not supply gas to the south of the country. The talks between the two governments have brought no results. “They do not want us to connect to the Turkmenistan-Kyrgyzstan-China gas pipeline, which will pass through the Chon-Alay valley. However, we cannot accept these conditions. We cannot give up the profit from gas transit via our territory. Uzbekistan does not intend to resume gas deliveries to the south of the country,” Atambayev added.
Kyrgyzstan President also added that the neighbors lay down unacceptable conditions of gas deliveries to the south of the country to Kyrgyzstan. “We are not going to beg our neighbors to give us gas. I asked Gasprom to find the way out of the gas crisis. Gasprom plans to build the gas pipeline from Kazakhstan to the south of the country through the Talass district,” Atambayev said.
