Construction of the East-West gas pipeline, which is designed for export of the Turkmen gas to the world markets, will be finished in the near future, Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Berdymohammadov said while addressing delegates of the International Gas Congress on Tuesday.
“This has pipeline, which starts on the Shatlyk field on the southeast the country, will pass through Mary, Akhal and Balkan provinces and reach Belek district on the Caspian Sea coast,” reads the address.
The project will unite all big gas fields of the country into a ring and “create favorable conditions for Turkmen gas export to the world markets via any route.”
It was reported earlier that about 800-km-long pipeline worth over $2 billion will be built by Turkmenneftegasstroi and Turkmengas state concerns.
Eight compressor stations will be built to implement the project. It was earlier reported that the gas pipeline will be launched in 2015.
The pipeline is expected to supply with gas the trans-Caspian gas pipeline , which could be laid to the Azerbaijani coast along the Caspian Sea bottom and from there Turkmen gas could be transported to the markets of Turkey and Europe.
