KazTransGas JSC starts studying possibility of production of methanol from the coal beds in Karaganda, writes Kazakhstan Today.
“Today KazTransGas and a group of LeMar CA Inc companies have signed the agreement to establish a joint venture to implement the investment project to explore and produce methanol on the Karaganda coal basin,” the company reported.
KazTransGas reported that this is the innovative direction in hydrocarbon production and is one of the most important non-traditional energy carriers, predicted resources of which allow considering it as an alternative component of Kazakhstan’s fuel and energy basis.
“Thanks to this document we started supplying with gas northern regions of the country at the instruction of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev,” said Serik Sultangali, General Director KazTransGas.
The company also reported that in order to study and apply the advanced US experience (which produces about 36 billion cub.m. of gas a year) especially in field of drilling coal beds, KazTransGas has held talks and reached an agreement on further joint operations with the leading US group of companies, including Core Laboratories, the scientific centre for development of methanol from coal beds, Scientific Drilling, the company for creation of equipment and drilling technologies, and Le Mar CA Inc, the engineering company for complex field development.
