According to the Azerbaijan State Statistical Committee, deliveries of oil products to the local market decreased by 4.9% against January 2013. There is also decline of consumption of petrol and diesel fuel.
In January 2014 104,800 tons of petrol, down 14.1% against January 2013, was delivered to the local market. Liquefied gas consumption increased in January 2014 – 17,100 tons was consumed, up 19.5% against January 2013.
This is the result of rise in fuel prices in December 2013 in Azerbaijan. Diesel fuel price increased by 34% and petrol by 30%. The authorities have banned parking cars downtown, the prices at the parking lots are very high (5-6 AZN per 8 hours), considering that average salary in the country is 428 AZN. Number of cars on the highways also went down and more people started using public transport.
The fuel consumption has gone down for the first time during the past several years.
