Russian gas supplies to Azerbaijan started four days ago. However, the Russian gas importer AzMeCo company has not informed the publicity about that yet. In May 2015 the company told mass media that SOCAR has suspended gas supplies to the plant and it cannot produce methanol without gas.
On September 11, 2015 AzMeCo and Russian Gasprom Export signed the gas purchase-sale agreement. That time decided not to inform the press about details of the agreement.
However, yesterday RIA-Novosti agency reported about beginning of gas supplies since September 29 quoting Gasprom.
The agency reported that “at present about 6 million cub.m. of gas a day is delivered to the plant.”
The contract was concluded the period of five years with the possibility of prolongation. The contract envisages delivery of about 2 billion cub.m. of gas a year to Azerbaijan.
“Russian gas import will allow satisfying additional needs of Azerbaijan in this type of energy carrier, because of growth of economy and increase in local consumption,” reads the information.
Azerbaijan’s local need in gas is 10 billion cub.m. a year. The share of gas in the fuel-energy balance of the country is about 45%.
