State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has designed a new offshore platform to develop deeper lying productive beds on the shallow section of the Caspian Sea or gas and condensate resources recently discovered on the Bulla Deniz field.
SOCAR press office reported that the platform has been designed by SOCAR’s Institute. It will be installed on the foundation, which will be fixed on the depth of 26 meters.
Four operation wells are planned to be drilled from the platform. According to SOCAR’s geologists, it is planned to extract 600 tons of condensate (over 200,000 tons a year) and 2 million cub.m. of gas (almost 730 million cub.m. a year) a day from the Caspian Sea.
The platform will be operated by the Oil & Gas Production company named after N. Narimanov.
In November 2012 SOCAR started exploration drilling from the platform on the Bulla Deniz field. On August 19, 2012 the well ignited with the gas flowing under high pressure. SOCAR has done everything possible to save the exploration well. It has managed to do that with help of foreign companies. The fire on the platform has been extinguished and on October 25, 2013 the extracted gas was connected to the gas transportation system.
* Bulla Deniz offshore field was discovered in 1973 and was put into operation in 1975.
